The Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS) Coordination Mechanism released a statement today expressing dismay and deep disappointment with the breaking of the silence procedure related to the 2021 HLPF Ministerial Declaration.
“We continue to be deeply concerned that the draft Ministerial Declaration falls short of providing the actionable outcomes that are urgently required to establish an effective pathway to meet the aspirations of the 2030 Agenda. However, though not fully supportive of all aspects of the content and language, we were prepared to support adoption of the Ministerial Declaration this year after the failure to adopt one last year. We are very surprised that in some cases the agreed language has been ignored and in other cases basic principles have been called into question. We very much regret that Member States have failed to reach consensus, even after many hours of negotiation and several revisions of the first draft.”
