Five common themes that emerge from the discussion papers

  1. The need for integrated and holistic approaches to sustainable development: Many of the papers emphasize the importance of addressing the interconnections and interdependencies among different sustainable development goals (SDGs) and sectors, and call for integrated approaches to policy-making and implementation.
  2. The role of partnerships and collaboration: Several papers highlight the importance of partnerships and collaboration among different stakeholders, including governments, civil society, the private sector, and academia, in achieving the SDGs.
  3. The importance of data and monitoring: Many of the papers stress the need for improved data collection and monitoring to better track progress toward the SDGs and to inform evidence-based decision-making.
  4. The need for transformative change: A number of the papers argue that achieving the SDGs will require transformative change in economic, social, and environmental systems, and call for bold and ambitious actions by all actors.
  5. The importance of leaving no one behind: Several papers emphasize the need to address inequalities and to ensure that the benefits of sustainable development are shared by all, particularly marginalized and disproportionately affected groups.
